Leon Macaw

Leon

Leon is a three-year-old Blue & Gold Macaw who was shipped from a breeder in Miami to an elderly gentleman in Georgia 2.5 years ago, and is now looking for a future built on stability, knowledge, and long-term commitment. He is a strong, confident flier, eats a balanced diet of chop and pellets, and presents as a bright, engaged young macaw. At just three years old, Leon is still very much a baby in macaw terms. He requires continued training, thoughtful socialization, structured enrichment, and routine veterinary care to mature into a well-adjusted adult. He has not yet reached sexual maturity, so it is too early to predict whether he will ultimately prefer a male or female primary caregiver. Leon will thrive with a family that understands large macaw development, is prepared for the decades-long responsibility ahead, and is committed to guiding him through adolescence with patience and consistency.
Baxter the congo african grey

Baxter

Baxter is an approximately 25-year-old African Grey whose life has been shaped by love and significant transitions. His elderly mom adopted him from his original owner in 2009, and he remained with her until 2018, when she entered hospice care. A family friend then provided temporary placement, but when that caregiver’s elderly mother needed to move in, Baxter once again lost his home. Due to limited species-appropriate knowledge in previous homes, Baxter was maintained on a seed diet that included peanuts, which may contribute to long-term nutritional concerns in African Greys. Since entering our care, he has undergone comprehensive disease testing, full veterinary evaluation, bloodwork, and imaging to establish a clear medical baseline. He has been started on Isoxsuprine (20 mg/mL, 0.2 mL once daily) and Pentoxifylline (50 mg/mL, 0.12 mL once daily) to support circulatory and inflammatory health, along with a 10-day course of Doxycycline (50 mg/mL, 0.2 mL...

Bodhi

Bodhi is a male Green Cheeked Conure hatched on December 20, 2022, and he has had the benefit of consistent love, appropriate care, and veterinary oversight from the start. He is well adjusted, confident, and thriving physically. Bodhi is DNA sexed, disease tested, nanochipped, and currently in good health with no known medical concerns. As a young adult, Bodhi is now sexually mature, which means he presents as a very typical Green Cheeked Conure—intelligent, expressive, energetic, and occasionally opinionated. He will require thoughtful handling and clear boundaries as hormones fluctuate, along with continued positive reinforcement training to support appropriate behaviors. Like all conures, he benefits from structure, enrichment, and outlets for natural behaviors such as foraging, chewing, flying, and social interaction. Bodhi deserves a home committed to providing what every parrot should have: safe flight opportunities, a balanced diet of quality pellets and fresh foods, abundant play and enrichment, ongoing...

Valentina

This demure female Yellow-crowned Amazon was found outside and brought to us during the summer of 2025. Despite the uncertainty she experienced, she has shown herself to be observant, gentle, and quietly resilient. She sings sweetly, pays close attention to the activity around her, and prefers to take in her environment before engaging. Since entering our care, she has undergone full disease testing, comprehensive veterinary evaluation, bloodwork, and has been nanochipped. She is currently stable and progressing well in a structured, supportive environment. Her temperament is soft and low-key, but she will require a home that truly understands Amazon’s body language. Unlike more overt Amazons, her signals are subtle. A slight feather shift, a quiet eye change, or a small posture adjustment may be her way of communicating boundaries. A knowledgeable adopter who respects these nuances will help her continue to build trust and confidence. She deserves a family committed...

Taco

Taco became displaced due to his mom passing away on 2/16/2025. His “sister” came back into town from being overseas to deal with her mother’s unexpected passing and really wanted a safe place for Taco to land. We don’t have an actual hatch date but since he grew up with sister, he is between 25 and 30 years old. He is a sweet talker, soft eyes, and a foodie. We are working on his diet to help him shed some weight, ensure his medical health, and give him time to mourn the loss of his companion. He isn’t in a hurry so we are not either. We are not sure what he wants in a companion yet so as we get to know him, that will become clearer to us so we can match make for him when he is ready. Meanwhile, feel free to send Taco a gift of...

Sugar Patty

Sugar Pattie, a beautiful Sulphur Crested Cockatoo, first came into Papayago Rescue House’s life to board. We love connecting with new-to-us parrot caregivers through our services. We quickly fell in love with Sugar and her infectious personality. In 2018, her mom reached out for help. Sugar Pattie had broken her leg, and her mom needed assistance with transportation to and from the vet. Over the months, we got to know Sugar Pattie and her loving mom, who did everything in her power to help her feathered companion heal.  Fast forward to 2022, and Sugar Pattie’s mom faced a difficult decision. Her health had declined to the point where she could no longer provide the care that Sugar Pattie needed. Despite facing serious health concerns, her first thought was always for Sugar Pattie’s well-being. She knew Papayago would be a safe, caring place for her beloved cockatoo, and we were honored...

Lola

Lola is a beautiful 12-year-old female Eclectus parrot. Sadly, Lola’s life took a difficult turn when her “mom” became ill with cancer. Unable to provide the care she once could, Lola and her three siblings were surrendered to our rescue. Coming to us under such circumstances is always heartbreaking, but Lola’s story has an added layer of complexity. Due to misinformation, she was fed an improper diet for much of her life. This has resulted in some concerning health issues, including behavioral challenges and noticeable fat deposits under her skin. These are direct consequences of a poor diet and will require dedicated care to address. Lola is now under the expert care of our team and avian veterinarian. She’s on a strict, carefully planned diet designed to slowly and safely improve her health and well-being. This is a crucial step in her rehabilitation, and we’re already seeing glimmers of her...

Outback Oasis: Blokes

A Brotherhood of Feathers. Welcome to Outback Oasis for the Blokes, a safe enclosure for male cockatiels who landed here with their own kind. In Outback Oasis for blokes, balance is everything. The flock thrives on harmony, where each member has a role to play in their social structure. From quiet observers to the more confident whistlers, every bird finds his place in this carefully maintained refuge. They enjoy daily foraging, friendly chatter, and the simple joys of flock life perching together, preening in unison, and greeting each new day with soft morning whistles to demands for breakfast. Though some may never seek a human’s touch, these cockatiels feel confident to have human friends that will allow them to be themselves, free from fear, allowed to fly, and to be a companion.
