Sugar Pattie, a beautiful Sulphur Crested Cockatoo, first came into Papayago Rescue House’s life to board. We love connecting with new-to-us parrot caregivers through our services. We quickly fell in love with Sugar and her infectious personality. In 2018, her mom reached out for help. Sugar Pattie had broken her leg, and her mom needed assistance with transportation to and from the vet. Over the months, we got to know Sugar Pattie and her loving mom, who did everything in her power to help her feathered companion heal.
Fast forward to 2022, and Sugar Pattie’s mom faced a difficult decision. Her health had declined to the point where she could no longer provide the care that Sugar Pattie needed. Despite facing serious health concerns, her first thought was always for Sugar Pattie’s well-being. She knew Papayago would be a safe, caring place for her beloved cockatoo, and we were honored when she chose us to continue caring for her.
Sugar Pattie came into the rescue with the same bright personality we remembered. Sugar has been thoroughly vetted and was found to have a ruptured air sac. Fortunately, this is an easily managed condition and is monitored. She’s flourishing here—eager to engage with everyone around her, showing off her playful side every chance she gets.
Because of this surrender, Sugar Pattie’s mom was able to move to Florida to be with more family, and where she could receive better medical care, knowing her beloved cockatoo was in safe hands.
