Chica Lu finds family

Adorable Chico was bought as a baby from a pet store. He was simply irresistible. He went home to a home full of kindness, kids, and love. Things went so well. Full of cuddles and family fun. One day a couple of years later, Chico started to bite. Not much, not often so it was a run off issue, right? Wrong. Chico was sexually maturing and seeking a bond mate with one of the children. Another year of trying different tactics, Chico was rehomed. The cycle started all over again. He sought a mate bond with mom and all was well until it wasn't. Words were used such as "unprovoked", "aggressive", and "territorial" even after "techniques" were used. Chico was surrendered in back in July 2020. We found out that Chico was a Chica Lu. She started in training, hands off, and allowing her to mourn the loss of her family. She adapted and started to thrive, diet changes with less sugar and low energy dense foods, and reinforcers for behavior modifications. It took her 3 years to find a home that understands her need for flight, activity, foraging, friends, and no cuddling. Her training will be continued so she gets her reinforcers through training and not cuddling. Less is more many times with physical contact and parrots. We wish her well in the next leg of her journey. But we will be here to support her entire family to encourage, plan, modify, improve, and support them.
