Some chilis are hot and spicy. Some chilis are mild and warm. That describes Chili. He is a mature bird that is adjusting to life without his mom of 35 years. Fully flighted and enjoys his independence. Cautious and careful but once he is comfortable, he will give you lots of companionship.

by some miracle, I was reunited with my beloved parrot after being separated, five months following a windstorm. This rescue had him in their care the whole time and treated them like their own. He lived in the owner's house with her, was given veterinary care, quality food, love, and attention. In fact, when we were reunited, my parrot was sitting on the owner's shoulder and was hesitant to come to ME! He had developed a bond with her and had clearly been given wonderful care. I highly recommend this rescue-- not only for their rescue services, but also for parrot boarding during long absences.

After the passing of my cockatiel that I had for over 17 years, I knew that if I was going to have another bird in my life that it needed to be special and that I wanted to adopt and not shop. The experience at Papayago Rescue House was exactly what my heart and soul needed. Maria and Brianna really take the time to make sure your parrot companion is right for you AND that you are right for that parrot companion - they have a knack for assessing chemistry. Also, outside of the adoption experience itself, Maria and Brianna provide incredible support to help you feel comfortable and confident bringing home your new friend - you can tell that they truly care deeply about these animals and their work. I'm incredibly grateful for my new friend and for our connection - which would not have been possible without the folks at Papayago.

My husband and I are so grateful for Papayago Rescue House and all the hard work they do. They are deeply committed to vetting all birds, getting them on the right diets, placing birds with the right homes, and sending them home with all the necessary supplies. We've adopted 5 wonderful cockatiels in total from them over the past 4 years, and 2 have required post-adoption communication regarding medical care. Our emails have always been promptly answered with appropriate guidance and patience. PRH also offers a significant panel of pre-adoption disease testing/bloodwork which is greatly appreciated!
This is a wonderful place for birds. They are so well cared for physically and emotionally. Papayago staff members know each bird's personality and needs. Each bird has a story. I know some people are frustrated with the adoption process, but many of these birds have been through some terrible situations and Papayago is making sure that doesn't happen to them again.
I love this bird rescue! The people that run Papayago Rescue are amazing and have extensive knowledge of parrots and other exotic birds.
I had an emergency come up on the weekend and couldn't find anyone that could help my 22 year old Macaw. A wildlife bird rescue recommended I give Papayago a call.
I called them immediately and spoke with Brianna, at Papayago. She was very concerned about my bird’s well being, and immediately offered to help.
I honestly feel she would not have survived, had it not been for their immediate intervention, compassion and knowledge. Maria and Brianna have gone above and beyond, to do whatever is needed in order to help my bird. They wanted to make sure that she will have a complete recovery, including covering the vet fees in order to get a proper diagnosis, and continuing care.
Since they are a bird rescue they are not open to the public, except by appointment only. As much time and work that is spent caring for these beautiful birds, I can see why it's necessary to require appointments.
Papayago is a non profit that operates solely on donations, by other bird enthusiast. I highly recommend them and if you are able to donate, please do. I can promise you that they do amazing things with your donations to help as many birds as they possibly can! Thank you so much Papayago!

I am late in posting my review since I adopted in 2020! I really learned so much through the adoption process, and yes, it is a thorough process. After moving forward with your application, multiple visits are required to ensure you're a good match with your new companion. The adoption was delayed due to COVID, but I was finally able to bring home Nina Bonina on September 12, 2020. She actually picked me, and our bond is amazing! Please don't think you're being treated badly because the process is long. Even with the best Angostura extensive education in parrot care, the amount of work can be exhausting! Birds become victims of abuse and neglect, sometimes unintentionally, because the owners weren't prepared. My previous bird experience was very limited, but that didn't prevent Maria and Breanna from educating me and allowing me to adopt a precious Umbrella Cockatoo. Just be prepared to put in the work. They will see your willingness and dedication. It truly pays off when you bring your new companion home.
