Rocio was born and raised in Mexico City. She moved to Georgia in 1995. Rocio Yadira Valencia Salazar, but we’ll stick with Chio as this is her nick-name. From early on, Chio had a passion for dance. That passion would lead her to be part of a Mexican Dance Company where she would thrive and move on to become a dance choreographer. She met her husband, Tony, married him, and had three kids, Brandon, Alex, and Connor. She joined her husband in the world of video production where she learned to produce events as a video assistant. She proceeded to expand her knowledge through hard work and dedication, becoming a black belt in the art of HAPKIDO, a Korean Martial Art. Alongside with her production and event work, she has also started her own printing business. Chio has a passion for life and embraces every challenge head-on. By helping her youngest son, Connor, she found a new passion, helping PRH and caring for our feathered friends. She is an adopted mom to several PRH birds!

Jr. Board Member
Connor Wallace

Connor, 15 years old, knew since he was a wee one that he loved birds. All birds have fascinated and intriqued him. Now that he has been volunteering with Papayago Rescue House for several years now, he understands the demands of having parrots, no matter the size, on young people. We asked him to join our board to bring a young voice to the table as well as help us reach young people who think they want a bird. The responsibility is not like that of a cat or dog and most parents have very little experience with birds to understand what they are committing to. Connor has learned how to give meds, trims nails, hold birds, clean cages, do gram stains, spot signs of sickness in birds, set up ICUs, feed and water, and enjoy true connection with birds in need. We look to develop the jr. program for young people this year with Connor at our lead.
